Moving from one state to another / Transferring Medicaid
Has anyone gone through this process. I’m thinking of moving to another state. My husband qualifies and is living in a memory care home. I want to move closer to my children.

neuroleptic malignant syndrome
Hi everybody 2 days ago, I learnt something new unfortunately. This road is definitely paved with many difficulties. My partner who clearly suffered from moving legs syndrome saw the neurologist who decided to try a new treatment because she said olanzapine wasn’t well adapted (everything was however fine during 2 months).…

Wife doing better in MC all the time
I hesitate to share this since some others have spouses who are unhappy in MC. But I guess I'm one of the lucky ones as my wife adjusted right away and has never complained or questioned why she is there. She has been at least content if not downright cheerful the entire six months she has been there. But I was bowled over…

In person support group vs. this forum
I attended three or four in person support group meetings. Here is my take on the pros and cons vs. the forum. I found the in person support group to vary in size from meeting to meeting. When there were larger numbers of attendees, it was at times hard for everybody to have time to talk about what was bothering them, and…

Need advice on a problem.
My husband lives in an independent living/skilled nursing facility. He is at about stage 6 (AD). He had a stroke on May2. His right side is paralyzed. After a few weeks in the hospital and rehab, we were fortunate to place him in the facility with the best reputation. So far so good. Before the stroke, my husband just…

very OT
This mornings news "people who speak a second language are older when diagnosed with AD". Interesting...have no idea of the validity.

Tracker systems?
Has anyone purchased a Jiobit tracker or have any other better ideas? I would like to find something to just hook on to my DH belt. I don't post much and more of a pirate by using many of the good ideas that others share. I will try to eventually come up with a letter of introduction. As always; thanks for the information.

Checking in—it’s getting tougher
Hi, well my DH is progressing a bit more. He was officially diagnosed with aphasia and possible alz, early 2020, but looking back, I see other symptoms before then. I wanted to check in to share a quick little bit…I didn’t know who to ask. My DH is dependent on me for showers, toileting, changing, and helping him on our…

My dilemma
I'm having a big problem. My wife is hospitalized and has been in there for a week now. She's being treated just for comfort care, not officially on hospice yet. That will/should happen almost immediately when we find a place for her. She's bed bound so there's no risk of exit seeking. To my knowledge, she wouldn't even be…

See a lawyer right after diagnosis
Over the years we have had many people explain how they had handled a dementia spouse for 3 or 4 years and now feel overwhelmed. I really really hate to nag but dementia of any kind is almost always a complete familial financial disaster You need legal help and you need it right away Do not wait dither prevaricate delay or…

AD plus other medical issues
My H is 71 diagnosed with AD in 2014. He is in early stage 6. I posted here a month or so ago regarding my H new diagnosis of hemochromatosis. Phlebotomy was the recommend course of treatment and is standard. He was very agitated over the treatment as he was going to have more "shots." We had a wonderful evening! (sarcasm)…

24/7 Alz helpline
Twice now I've called the helpline and have asked to speak with a care consultant. Both times the people have been nice and understanding and all that, but overall have been unable to assist me. I haven't been impressed, just my opinion.

It’s spring here
I feel like I'm living again. Last week I asked and obtained a sport coach who comes twice a week (added to the aquagym) On Thursday there was another crisis. The other resident husband (my dear spy) called me. My partner was prostrate, crying. We decided to change the rythme. He called the nurse and we decided : No more…

Advanced Care Planning Health Care Directives
Hi all, and thanks again for the great information on this forum. As I read other postings, I had questions about the various documents referenced, and found this helpful article from the National Institute on Aging. https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/advance-care-planning-health-care-directives

Signed DNR today
Today I signed. DNR on my wife for the MCF. No one would advise me, only saying that it was my decision. Her psychiatrist said it was a quality of life issue and that she had no quality of life now. After signing, her doctor and the social worker and director of nursing told me I made the right decision. It’s still hard…

Wife said something funny
The topic of someone having to be with my wife while I am gone came up yesterday. In fact she has been on an endless loop on why she doesn't need a babysitter. The caregiver is scheduled for tomorrow and she has been campaigning against it all week. I tell her it's because of your diagnosis it's for insurance purposes. I…

Hi Stewart. Just wondering how things are going now. Haven't seen you on the forum for a while. I hope things have turned around for you and your wife.

Learning a new language and way of speaking
I had an interesting insight yesterday into my DH's thought processes - or lack thereof. I had a friend over for ice tea and chit chat. After she left my DH was very upset I had not told him she was coming. He had been told several times the evening before and that day. I said I was sorry he did not know and in the future…

Constant gaslighting
I just came back from a local caregiver support group near me. So thrilled to feel so validated by similar stories, got some ideas for some of my challenges. Then hubby comes back from his mens group. He got a ride like I asked him to, he complains that his ride can’t drive either. Then he tells me he saw his therapist…

Some PWD may be able to return home
It breaks my heart to read about some of your struggles with the decision to move your LO into a care facility. Last night I watched this Teepa Snow video on YouTube and the speaker is a minister who took care of his affected wife for many years. During one stage, she fought him and wouldn’t allow him to care for her, and…

Just need to talk to my friends (176)
Hi, Seemed to be the right time for 176. Can you all believe it's been that long and for years we didn't number them. Sara, I will make a concerted effort tomorrow to find the recipe for stuffed eggplant. Jo's recipe sounds good but lots of ingredients. I'm like you in that I like easy things to cook. By the way I…

Spoke too soon
When I came down after tidying upstairs, there was a big brown package in the sink. Whipped on the blue gloves and put it in a doggy poo bag. But what was more worrying was the fact there was a stranger sitting in the living room. He was very nice and introduced himself to me. My husband kept asking me to come in and talk…

Tomorrow to MC, any last advice?
This seems a small problem in light of the intense suffering many others are experiencing. I apologize, but here I go. Thank you in advance!! DH will be going to MC tomorrow, after about a month in rehab. Gout both knees, L-1 fracture, pneumonia. Walking with a walker now and more steady on his feet, which is the goal MC…

Stuck (as in, we are stuck)
It will. be four months next week that my partner has been in MC, five since she was hospitalized. There has been no acclimatization or acceptance of her surroundings; if anything, the MC folks are telling me that her anxiety about not being able to leave is increasing. They asked me today what I thought about them trying…

DW Doesn't Think I live in our House
My wife and I have been married 31 years in September and have lived in the same house the whole time. She was recently diagnosed with early onset (she's 63) and the primary issues are no short rterm memory and some sundowning activites including wandering off. Recently though about once a week she will ask me when I am…

Spouse with dementia “fires” aide
DH screams at aide(s)—only if and when I’m not here—to go away and get out of the house. For context: For a couple years he really dislikes other people, even longtime friends, at the house. If friends came by, he might last 5 minutes, then he goes to another room. Even kids and family, if more than one, he leaves. I can…

Now even more to deal with
Starting a new post about my challenges in trying to help my wife. I feel like I'm writing too much, sorry if I am. To briefly recap, on Saturday my ability to care for my wife at home by myself came to an abrupt and unexpected end. I called for an ambulance to help get my wife off the floor and to take her to the ER to…

Its sad as I wasted so much time with them
Good afternoon, I WOULD FIRST LIKE TO APPOLOGIZE IF FOR SOME RESON YOU ARE GETTING THIS A SECOND TIME. But I was going of multiple email list and you sure cannot trust a person with dementia to do it right. I wanted to ensure that I had reached out to all that I have spoken to in the past about DAA. Please share with all…
